The Danny Oates Memorial 5K, sponsored by the Frank W. Thompson Lodge, Bedford Masonic Association was founded to pay tribute to the beloved son of Bob and Judy Oates, long time Bedford residents. Bob is a retired Bedford firefighter, and their son Brian currently serves as a firefighter now. Since 1998, the race has added over $43,000 to the scholarship fund, and distributes over $9,000 in scholarships each year.

We received a lot of GREAT feedback about the medals given out at this year's road race and wanted to let everyone know that it was Bob Oates who started this new tradition.  Bob, along with the assistance of Victor Garofalo,  wanted a medal that honored the Masons and Fire Department, both of which are huge factors in the running of Danny's Road Race.   He also wanted the runners to be rewarded for their run and for their continued support of his son's  Memorial 5K Road Race.  Thanks Bob!!
